Place photographs
Two photographs per place. On Food & Stay the top of each card turns over when a visitor hovers it and shows what is here. One photograph fills the reveal; two take turns, fading from one to the other, so each is seen whole rather than squeezed into half a frame. A place with none does not turn at all, which is the right behaviour and needs nothing doing.
Upload anything from a phone. Every file is cropped to 1440×960 from the centre and re-encoded before it leaves the browser. That is 3:2, which is exactly the shape of the reveal on the card, so what you see below is what a visitor sees — nothing is cropped a second time. Portrait photographs lose their top and bottom: frame the subject in the middle.
